I was visiting with someone this day who came to purchase some things from a sale that I am having in the place I used to call home in Huntington Beach and we were discussing what the http://www.gofundme.com/rebirthlife page is all about. I had a chance to share with her that it wasn’t just about raising some immediate money to get me and Sophie (my dog) moved out of where we’re currently living, it was/is a foundation for a broader mission.
When I finished explaining to her, she was very surprised, impressed, and inspired about the mission which I shared with her and now with you.
What gets to me is that many people raising money for things in this life do it for a number of reasons:
a. Money is everything
b. Money allows me to buy toys
c. Money allows me to take people out to expensive places and impress them
d. Money is the key to happiness.
All of those…are the wrong reasons to raise money. That’s why I’ve stayed away from going to these seminars where you run around with funny hats on and blurt out your requests for money. That’s why I’ve not stood in front of large crowds asking for funds. It’s why I created a page and have been promoting it as much as I have because people need to know that this is a handUP and stepUP and a foundation for the broader mission of informing people. Informing them of ELDER ABUSE on our planet.
Here’s what I want to do with the money that is raised, and the $6000 is just the start. How much do I want to raise totally? The answer is EASY - $5,000,000.00 - 5 Million Dollars.
Now, before you start laughing, let me share with you what those funds will be used for:
a. NOT buying expensive toys
b. NOT taking people out to expensive places to impress them
c. NOT claiming that it is EVERYTHING, and NOT using it to proclaim that Money is the key to happiness.
d. WILL be used for education of many about ELDER ABUSE
e. WILL be used to inform MILLIONS about ELDER ABUSE
f. WILL be used to hold agencies accountable for investigating ELDER ABUSE in ALL CARE FACILITIES in the USA
g. WILL be used to hire & train crack teams that can deploy quickly to remedy ELDER ABUSE situations and engage oversight & reporting
h. WILL be used to RESCUE residents from abusive environments to safer ones quickly, documenting everything & engaging law enforcement to proceed with prosecution of individuals responsible for offenses.
i. WILL be used to assist families with resources to protect their loved ones and their assets.
j. WILL be used to engage lawyers to aid families in recovering funds which are appropriated from them for care that their loved ones truly do not require because of improper staffing by facilities.
k. WILL be used to hold facilities that are tasked with taking care of our elders and our Veterans accountable for all of their actions during the time that those people are in their care.
The bottomline is this money when raised will be used for those things that are important around the mission of informing people of Elder Abuse and bringing a huge spotlight to bear on this problem because we’re ALL getting older. There is no cure for age, and even when there is one, there will be a transition period where people still need care. Everyone is going to be in need of elder care and there’s no reason that these places which are tasked with taking care of our elders should be allowed to get away with abusing those in their trust.
What do I need from you out there? Simple. A $5 donation. The minimum that http://www.gofundme.com/rebirthlife will allow you to donate.
Then, after you’ve donated, email, or facebook, or tweet out to every follower you have and ask them to either match or exceed your donation.
Once the $5 million dollar amount is achieved, the donation acceptance will be stopped, a foundation will be formed, and then the battle begins to expose the spectre of this problem which affects our entire PLANET!! Not just this country.
If you know any celebrities out there who have millions of followers, they have some great pull with them, get them to ask their followers to donate just $5. If you know anyone at Starbuck’s ask them to ask 1,000,000 of their customers to give up coffee for one day and donate their $5 to the page. This will get this campaign funded and over with in less than 24 hours.
If you know anyone in the media who can get the message out and encourage people to donate to this, this matter affects more people than those who were affected by a pizza parlor making a stand against gay weddings in Indiana. In fact, those people who own that pizza parlor are also going to get old and they’ll require care and they could potentially end up being the victims of Elder Abuse.
Working together we can help turn the tables on those companies that take money from families, deliver sub-standard care, and at the very same time abuse our family members, and raise the care rates to suck more and more money from families because they can and no one is holding them accountable.
